A Golden Afternoon in the Lowcountry
As one of the leading Charleston engagement photographers, I’m always looking for the perfect balance of light, scenery, and personality in a session location. When Michelle and Scott reached out, they knew they wanted the true Charleston feel — complete with towering oak trees and Spanish moss swaying in the breeze. Immediately, I knew Charlestowne Landing would give them everything they envisioned.
This historic park offers an unmatched combination of natural beauty and romantic atmosphere. From winding pathways to sunlit clearings, it’s the kind of place that makes every image look like it belongs on the pages of a Southern wedding magazine. The sunlight pouring through the moss that afternoon created a dreamy glow, highlighting Michelle and Scott’s connection in every frame.
Why Charlestowne Landing Is a Favorite for Charleston Engagement Photos
Couples searching for Charleston engagement photos often imagine colorful streets and waterfront views, but Charlestowne Landing is a hidden gem for those who want something more private and timeless. This historic site is known as the birthplace of Charleston, and it’s home to centuries-old oak trees, gardens, and walking trails that feel worlds away from the city — even though it’s just a short drive from downtown.
One important thing to know is that the park has set hours and a small entry fee, which helps keep the grounds well-maintained and less crowded. This means couples can enjoy a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere for their session without competing for space. And for those planning ahead, the venue is also home to the Legare Waring House, one of Charleston’s most elegant wedding venues.
Charleston Engagement Photographers Love the Legare Waring House
The Legare Waring House sits inside Charlestowne Landing and offers a grand yet intimate setting for weddings and portraits. Its sweeping lawn, stately columns, and breathtaking avenue of oaks make it an iconic backdrop for engagement photos in Charleston. Even if you aren’t hosting your wedding there, scheduling portraits on its grounds can add a touch of classic Charleston elegance to your gallery.
For Michelle and Scott, the oak-lined paths and filtered light created a romantic, almost cinematic quality in their images. The setting allowed them to focus entirely on each other, with no distractions, resulting in photographs that feel both authentic and artfully composed.

Hi, I'm Stee Garman, a Columbia South Carolina photographer and East Coast traveler. Photography has been a love of mine for as long as I can remember. In high school, I went through hundreds of disposable cameras. When I studied abroad in Italy, I bought my first DSLR. Once I got home, I started taking photos of families I knew - just for fun.
Those casual photos quickly turned into part-time work - as families referred me and my business began its growth. A few months later, an old college friend asked me to photograph her wedding. I was hesitant, but I agreed. From that point forward, I knew that’s where I wanted to be: in the celebration right alongside my couples. I've found my true calling in being there for couples on one of the biggest days of their lives. It's an honor I never take for granted, and one that fills me with joy - every single time.
