A Decade of Capturing Milestones
One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is getting to walk alongside families through so many seasons of life. When a family comes back to me year after year, I get to witness their story unfold—and that’s exactly what it’s been like with the Summers family.
Photographing Kambell’s senior session in Charleston was extra special, because I had photographed her big sister Keelie’s senior pictures years ago in the same city. We even had a sweet full-circle moment: Kambell wore the same orange dress Keelie did for her session. These kinds of connections are why I love what I do—they make the images even more meaningful.
For this session, we strolled through the cobblestone streets of downtown Charleston, using the city’s natural beauty as our backdrop. As a Charleston senior photographer, I love blending the city’s charm with a senior’s personality so the photos feel both timeless and uniquely theirs.
Why Charleston is Perfect for Senior Sessions
The Allure of Charleston Senior Pictures
Charleston is a city where every corner offers something beautiful—from pastel row houses and wrought iron gates to lush greenery and waterfront views. Its blend of history and coastal charm makes it ideal for senior portraits that feel elevated yet approachable.
The light here is magic. In the early morning or just before sunset, the soft, golden glow bounces off the pastel walls and cobblestone streets, giving portraits a painterly feel. This makes Charleston senior pictures not only visually stunning but also timeless keepsakes that will feel relevant for decades.
In addition, the variety of locations allows us to create a gallery that feels dynamic and custom-tailored. We can capture elegant shots in front of historic homes, playful moments along Rainbow Row, and dreamy, light-filled portraits by the water—all within a short walk.
Creating a Personalized Senior Session Experience
Capturing Personality in Every Frame
For me, senior photography is about more than pretty pictures—it’s about telling the story of who you are in this milestone year. Kambell’s Charleston senior pictures were a perfect example of that. She brought a quiet confidence and joyful energy to the session, which came through in every image.
Before every senior session, I take the time to talk with my clients about their style, personality, and vision. This helps us choose locations and outfits that truly reflect who they are. It also means the session feels comfortable and fun, which is essential for authentic expressions.
When photographing in Charleston, I encourage seniors to bring at least two outfits: one classic, elevated look (like Kambell’s orange dress) and one casual, everyday look. This gives variety to the gallery while still keeping a cohesive feel.
The Importance of Senior Pictures
Senior pictures aren’t just about marking the end of high school—they’re about celebrating who you’ve become and where you’re headed. Years from now, these images will bring back memories of a time filled with anticipation, growth, and excitement for the future.
For parents, these photos are a way to capture their child at the cusp of adulthood, freezing a moment in time before everything changes. For seniors, they’re a chance to express individuality, style, and personality in a way that’s uniquely yours.
As a Charleston senior photographer, my goal is always to create portraits that feel like an authentic reflection of my client, wrapped in the beauty of a city that enhances the story.

Hi, I'm Stee Garman, a Columbia South Carolina photographer and East Coast traveler. Photography has been a love of mine for as long as I can remember. In high school, I went through hundreds of disposable cameras. When I studied abroad in Italy, I bought my first DSLR. Once I got home, I started taking photos of families I knew - just for fun.
Those casual photos quickly turned into part-time work - as families referred me and my business began its growth. A few months later, an old college friend asked me to photograph her wedding. I was hesitant, but I agreed. From that point forward, I knew that’s where I wanted to be: in the celebration right alongside my couples. I've found my true calling in being there for couples on one of the biggest days of their lives. It's an honor I never take for granted, and one that fills me with joy - every single time.
